Institutions and the changing worlds in which they work are intimately interconnected. As a result, organizations are continually challenged to remain vital and to find ways to serve their constituencies most effectively. They have to revisit their missions constantly and regularly. They have to review and reassess their operations and strategies. They have to adapt and change where necessary, especially in light of demographic shifts. And they have to husband and redirect their often-limited resources to address new priorities. Accomplishing these objectives meaningfully requires institutional consensus and buy-in, development of which is often not straightforward. The process of envisioning and managing change can be made even more complex by the growth in societal scrutiny and governmental regulation. Robert L. Lichter, Ph.D., has been a university faculty member in the chemical sciences, a senior university administrator, and head of a major national grantmaking foundation. He has developed and put into place strategies for programs and their funding across a variety of academic disciplines and programmatic areas. He has broad practical knowledge of the processes of program and proposal development and organizational structure that has served a wide array of organizations and institutions. He has served on governmental and non-profit boards, advisory committees, and planning groups, and has lectured and written on issues important to academic and not-for-profit organizations. |
